Gin and Ambrosia Launched

As Aki, Blake, and Keisha begin their last semester at Axis University, they realize that they've had it easy so far. Soon they're going to have to face the real world, worrying about jobs before they can think about any coming war. Worst of all, some friendships can't last past college.
That's assuming they can survive to graduation, because everything they've done is coming back to haunt them. Old enemies like Tierdrial and Risa take the gloves off, Emile and Tiffanos drag them into new schemes, and Axis University moves its plan another step forward. There's going to be another bid to remake reality, this time not the kind that can be stopped by a bunch of lucky students.

Author Notes
Though this book went through more revisions than average, in the end I'm pleased with it. This is the one I couldn't do without the foundation of the first four books, really putting all the pieces that have been set up into play.

Cubicle Quest reached 360%

That's right, counting donations from outside Kickstarter, it just rounds up to 360% of the goal I'd set for the project. I'm glad the idea resonated with so many people and I'll be working on polishing the game for them.

Having said that, I won't be leaving behind my other projects. I finally have a cover for Gin and Ambrosia, so the fifth Dying War book will be coming out relatively soon. There are only a few more things to put in order, but I'd like to be able to give some of them my full attention. That will require finishing up some other projects.

Meanwhile, thanks to Cubicle Quest, I now have a forum. If anyone has questions about the series or any other reason they want to use a forum, it's available.

Cubicle Quest Kickstarter

And now for something completely different:
Cubicle Quest is an RPG about how much work sucks and what you can do about it. If you like my dialogue or sense of plotting from my writing, you'll find a lot of it in this game. More details found at the link. It's just been launched on Kickstarter and I won't be mentioning it here very much since it's in the secondary project category right now.

Sorcery and Scholarships is now free!

The first novel in The Dying War is now available for free on Smashwords, making it even easier to start the series. If you like urban fantasy with genre-savvy characters, there's four books waiting for you with a fifth on the way.

Check out the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads for other people's perspectives and all the positive adjectives I couldn't bring myself to cram into this post.

Everyone wishes the ancient prophecy would go away. Pixies commute to work and sirens make mp3s of their songs, yet antique forces stubbornly persist. They want to bring about a war between Light and Darkness in an era when most people just want to cash in on the merchandising.

Aki is struggling to make ends meet and hopes her scholarship can at least earn her a better apartment. Blake refuses to believe he could be something so cliché as a Knight of Darkness. Keisha is pursuing a career in law when she's told she has no choice but to serve the forces of Light. All of them will be attending the same university, whether they like it or not.

It's hard to think about dark omens when there's a term paper due, much less a party that night. But they'd better relax while they can, because after college is only the real world, which is stranger and more dangerous than they could possibly imagine.

Next Several Months

Lots of things are up in the air, but you can expect the following over the coming months:
  • I'll be running a Kickstarter campaign for a game I've designed (mid-May).
  • Sorcery and Scholarships will be made free.
  • The Orphan's Family will be released (June?).
  • Gin and Ambrosia will finally be released (July?).
Sorry I can't give a clear timeline, but there are too many variables in the air.

Gin and Ambrosia: Still Pending

Even May looks overoptimistic to me. I finished the rewrite weeks ago and I'm reasonably happy with the book, but I'd still like to get feedback from another beta reader. The cover is also still in progress.

The unrelated novel is done and also waiting on a cover. The unrelated project is nearing completion and I'll probably announce it here. In other words, there's not very much to actually report.

Gin and Ambrosia: New Release Date

The bad news is that the fifth book will probably be released in May instead of April. The good news is that I finished my fantasy trilogy, but that's not relevant here.

The fifth Dying War Book, Gin and Ambrosia, will be delayed by three things:
 - I need to do a rewrite of the ending.
 - Someone else needs to beta read the rewrite.
 - Cover art needs to be completed.

It's possible it will all come together before April ends, but I'm not going to assume that. Meanwhile, in the near future I expect to release an unrelated novel, introduce a different kind of project, and possibly make Sorcery and Scholarships free.

2013 in Review

Technically 2013 was a year of many transitions, but it didn't feel that way in a subjective sense. Perhaps that's because more of the big issues in my life are settled and I have less interpersonal conflict to deal with.

I've transitioned to my new job, where I hope to stay for at least several years. It provides more time for writing, which I'll split between work posted here and work submitted to assorted publishers. I wrote more than expected in 2013, so I've set more aggressive goals for this year.

In the coming year:
 - I'll be releasing a stand-alone novel unrelated to my previous work.
 - Gin and Ambrosia (Dying War 5) should be released in April.
 - I plan to write the sixth and seventh books during 2014, but they won't be released during this year because I think I need to slow production.
